Now is a Great Time to Join a CSA

Hi Mommies,

I hope everyone is staying safe and is also getting outdoors to enjoy the warmer weather.

We just signed up for a local CSA, which will provide us with fresh produce from mid-June through mid-October. CSA stands for community-supported-agriculture, which in this case means that we will receive produce directly from nearby farms.

I wanted to share my reasons for doing this with you, so you can decide if you want to sign up as well!

  1. Fresh, fresh, fresh! To me, nothing tastes better then freshly harvested fruits and veggies. You can taste the difference. Even when you buy local from supermarkets, there is a longer lag time from the food being picked and when it arrives on the shelf.

  2. You know exactly where your food is coming from. I like seeing where my fruits and veggies are growing and I have asked the farm owners specific questions about how they grow and what chemicals they are using. You can ask about how they keep bugs off their crops and make sure that they are truly organic and are not using harmful chemicals.

  3. Price and value. Based on the up-charge of supermarkets during these unprecedented times, a share will save you money. If you have never done a share before, look into getting a half share to gauge how much you will get each week.

  4. You are truly supporting local vendors. Your local farm may also have a farmstead which sells different baked goods, jams, meats and other items from the community. Supporting them can help you areas economy.

I hope these reasons inspire you to look at your local farms and sign up for a CSA this summer!
