Why I Threw Away a Box of Products

Hi Mommies,

I filmed this post right before the pandemic hit and am just getting a moment to actually sit down and write this post.

If you are a follower of my blog, you will know that I try to limit and reduce the amount of chemicals used in our house. I try to stay away from harsh products and try to buy organic foods. I also like to buy “clean” skincare products, but have been discovering that “clean” when used in skincare and makeup ingredients can be very vague. Brands will sometimes say in big letters that they are paraben and sulfate free, but then may be listing a number of other chemicals in fine print. If you aren’t a scientist or have knowledge of every chemical (I mean, who knows that?), there are ways to check if your products are safe or safer than most.

My favorite reference site is www.EWG.org. Have you ever been on this site?

Click on the beauty products section and then put in a brand or product. For the fun of it, I put in Drunk Elephant and chose the tinted sunscreen (which I use frequently). Here is the report.

Pretty awesome, huh? The report tells you about ingredient concerns, cancer, allergies and toxicity, as well as user restrictions.

This will keep you busy for hours. EWG.org also has a section for children’s health, checking food products and household chemicals, as well as many other sections. You can also take action and sign environmental awareness petitions. I go on this site weekly and subscribe to their newsletter.

Check out my vlog below for more information. I hope you have found this blog helpful. I am really passionate about chemical safety and saving the environment. Would love you read your comments below!
