Fun Day at Dreamworks Water Park at the American Dream Mall

Hi Everyone,

Did you know that the largest indoor water park in North American is in East Rutherford, New Jersey? I bet you didn’t! The water park is also the only Dreamworks water park in North American as well. And, guess what??? It’s in a MALL! The American Dream Mall is the 2nd largest mall in America and houses an indoor water park, amusement park, ice skating rink, aquarium, Lego Discovery center, 2 mini golf courses, a ski slope, a museum, and gaming arcade with laser tag (coming in 2023). If you’d like to see my review of the mall, check back next week, as I’ll have a new blog posted up. This blog is alllll about the Dreamworks Water Park.

Honestly, the thought of going to an indoor water park makes my skin curl, but since my daughter wanted to go for her birthday, I decided to figure out how to plan a fabulous and fun day out for her and our entire family.

When to go -

First, I wanted to go at a time when there was no crowd. I was told that on an off peak weekday, the crowd is only 600 people…on a weekend or peak time, the park crowds could swell from 3,000 to 6,000 people. As a person who likes to avoid crowds, I figured that a Monday would be a perfect time to go. Unfortunately, on the Monday we decided to go, there was a 50% off ticket deal, so there were about 2000 people in the park, but honestly, it was fine. The park stayed clean and it didn’t feel too crowded. I was with my 5 year old, so we weren’t riding the racing slides, but my husband and sons said that the wait wasn’t too bad.

If you do go on a peak time, there is a turbo pass for $40 per person which gets you to the front of the line.

Seating, Cabanas and Skyboxes -

We decided that because we got our tickets during a 50% off special, we would splurge and get a skybox. You can either put your stuff down on a chair, rent a cabana, or rent a skybox for the day. We rented a skybox for up to 8 people. There was a shared bathroom on the skybox floor, but no private bathroom. It was fine in the morning, but by the end of the day, it hadn’t been checked or cleaned.

The cabana was amazing. It had a changing area, fully stocked soda bar, sink, couch and apple TV. The box had a railing, so it felt like we were in the park, but away from the crowd, which was nice. The skybox had a menu with a QR code, so you could order from various restaurants in the mall, and your box valet would deliver the food to you. We ordered Five Guys for dinner and it took about a half and hour to be delivered, but it was so easy and great to have the food delivered right to the box!

The cabanas were much smaller and semi private, so I was happy we decided to go with the box.

When you walk into the park, you actually walk through the changing rooms, so you can change and set up your own locker. The changing rooms were surprisingly clean. Once you get out to the main area, you can grab a chair by the wave pool.

Rides for Little Kids -

For the under 7 crowd, there is a section with Penguin slides and a large water play area. There is also a gigantic wave pool and lazy river. I’d say this keeps the little ones busy for about 3-4 hours. My daughter had a blast, but then got tired and wanted to change and hang out.

I do have to mention that I was SO IMPRESSED by the staff for the little kids slides. They had a group of 6 slides for the under 7’s and would take a child one at a time to complete the ride, and then they would make sure that the child got out of the water safely at the bottom.

Rides for the Big Kids and Adults -

If you want to avoid crowds and long lines, definitely go on off peak times. The rides are rated by diamonds for level of thrill. My 8 year old was able to ride the 2 diamond slides because of his height, but he definitely said that the 2 diamond one he rode was super scary. It was called the big flush, where it feels as if you are flushed down a toilet!

Food -

There is a snack bar with healthy salad/snack options, but having a skybox, we were able to order food from outside and bring it in.

All in All -

We had a really, really great time. The staff was AMAZING, knowledgable and kind. I was impressed and would definitely do it again…off peak, of course!
