5 Tips to Surviving the Holidays with Toddlers

Mommies, are you ready for a break or a breakdown?  The holidays are a crazy, busy time, but then thrown in cranky kids, tantrums, and unappreciated presents.  How is a Mommie to handle it all?  Don’t throw in the towel just yet.  Here are my official Mommiemix tips to surviving the holidays with toddlers.

  1. Sleep…for everyone. Yes, you want to make sure that your little ones are rested, but you need to make sure you are too. It’s okay to say No when people ask you to events that you know will be too much for the kids.

  2. Try to avoid over stimulation. Yes, this is a toughie…We ended up buying less for our kids because we knew that they were going to receive gifts from friends and family. We also spaced out gift giving so they wouldn’t be overwhelmed.

  3. Keep your normal schedule as much as possible. If you can keep to a similar schedule, it will keep the little ones calmer.

  4. Be prepared with your own snacks and games when visiting family and friends. When visiting loved ones, make sure you are prepared. Bring your own toys and snacks to keep the kids busy, unless you are completely sure that they will have snacks and toys for the kids. You don’t want to deal with bored children.

  5. Don’t expect family and friends to baby proof for you. Try to remain calm if you are in an non-baby proofed household. This adds much stress to moms. Find a room that is relatively safe and then do your best. Eggnog works…kidding.

Finally, take some quiet time to spend with your family amid the craziness and enjoy them.  It is stressful.  It is overwhelming, but they are only young once.
